Region VII Workforce Investment Board

Region VII WIB Calendar: The Region VII Workforce Investment Board has provided a calendar of events for Board, Committee, and Council meetings. The calendar also provides the dates and times for upcoming Job Fairs, Conferences, and other relevant events concerning the Region VII Workforce Investment Board.

 

Local Elected Officials (LEOs): a Local Elected Official represents each of the eight counties in Region VII. Additionally, the city of Martinsburg is represented on the Local Elected Official Board. The LEO Board consists of eight county commissioners and one city mayor. These nine officials are responsible for the delivery of Workforce Investment Act services throughout the Region VII service area. Some of their primary duties include overall financial authority and responsibility, appointment of the Workforce Investment Board, development of a Regional Strategic Plan, and appointment of a fiscal agent. Workforce Investment Board: The Region VII Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is appointed by the Local Elected Officials to serve a two-year term. The Workforce Investment Act (ACT) requires board composition to be 51% business with other members representing both mandated and optional partners defined in the ACT. The board, in conjunction with the Local Elected Officials, is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the WIA service delivery network. Board duties include development and implementation of policies and procedures, identification of training providers, development of Individual Training Accounts (ITAs), development of Performance Measures and other duties as defined by the ACT and Local Elected Officials. Youth Council of the Workforce Investment Board: The Region VII Youth Council is appointed by the Workforce Investment Board to coordinate the youth activities in the Region VII service area. The Youth Council is responsible to the WIB to determine eligible youth criteria; recommending eligible youth service providers; conducting oversight of youth programs, and the development of a Youth Strategic Plan. Youth Council membership includes members of the Local WIB, juvenile justice representative, local public housing representative, parents of eligible youth, youth organizations, Job Corps, and others. WIB Staff: WIB staff provides the fiscal and administrative support to the Local Elected Officials and the Workforce Investment Board.
