The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 brings new emphasis and substantive reform to how youth are served within the workforce investment system. It presents an opportunity to prepare our young people to successfully transition to the workforce and to continued education and training.
The Region VII Workforce Investment Board’s (WIB) Youth Program is designed to improve education, training, and job opportunities for youth; redefine current youth program offerings; and build upon innovative methodologies and experiences.
The Region VII WIB provides comprehensive programming for youth 14 – 21 years of age through contracted service providers and partnerships developed throughout the county.
Central to implementing the new vision for serving youth is the establishment of the local youth council, an integral part of the local Workforce Investment Board.
The Youth Council is called upon to serve as advocates for youth and to ensure the provision and coordination of workforce training activities available in Region VII.
Collaboration and coordination are the ultimate goals of the Youth Council and the Workforce Investment Board.
Partnerships are key to any success, creating opportunities for youth and advantages for any organization. Every business benefits from the chance to provide training and services to future employees.
